BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:

Education:  1975- Graduated from Indiana University Honors Division with a B.A. in Economics; 1978-  Graduated from Indiana University-Indianapolis School of Law cum laude with a Juris Doctorate.

Judicial Experience:  Judge Moberly began her judicial career in 1998, after 18 years as a private practitioner.  She was assigned to a Domestic Violence court where she initiated the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council.  The purpose of the Council was to coordinate the various county agencies that respond to complaints/charges of domestic violence, to streamline the intake process, enhance the response, provide improved protection, and increase victim safety.  After nearly 2 years, Judge Moberly was assigned to major felony court (Criminal Court 2).  In January 2001, she was assigned to a civil court, where she currently serves in Civil Court 12.  As a trial judge, Judge Moberly has presided over more than two hundred jury trials, including death penalty, Murder, A, B, C and D felony jury trials.  She has over 70-80 civil trials including medical malpractice, legal malpractice, automobile accidents, products liability, and miscellaneous personal injury cases.  In addition to the range of civil cases filed, Judge Moberly also presides over a number of Child In Need of Services (CHINS) cases and Termination of Parental Rights cases.

Significant Legal Accomplishments:  P.L. 50-2006 Sec. 7, effective 7/1/06, Relocation statute codified at Ind. Code § 31-17-2.2.
-Judge Moberly has been a member of the Child Custody and Support Advisory Committee, which is a legislative study committee.  In that capacity, she participated in writing the Parental Relocation Statute.  Ind. Trial Rule 56 (c), effective January 1, 2006.
-Judge Moberly wrote the amendment to Indiana Trial Rule 56 (C) which removed the requirement of a hearing on all summary judgment motions and required hearings only when requested by any party or on the court’s own motion. 
-Indiana Child Support Guidelines, amended September 10, 2003, effective January 1, 2004.
-As a member of the Domestic Relations Committee of the Indiana Judicial Conference, Judge Moberly was an author of the amendments to the Indiana Child Support Guidelines. 

Other Legal Involvement:  Chair of the Indianapolis Bar Association Pro Bono Standing Committee for the years 2003 and 2004. 
-Recipient of the Indianapolis Bar Association President’s Award in 2003.
-Member of the Marion Superior Court Executive Committee from January 2005 until my term ended in January 2007.
-Chair of the civil division of the Marion Superior Court, 2003, 2004.
-Lead Judge of the Marion Superior Family Court Project since its inception in November 2001. 
-Member of the  IBA Board of Managers from 2004-2006.
-Distinguished Fellow of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation
-Officer of the Indiana Judges Association will assume Presidency 2001.

Personal Statement:  “My staff and I endeavor each day to make our court one in which the attorneys can do their very best legal work.  I have been honored to serve as a judge in our Superior Court for the past 11 years.  I have always done my best to be patient, to listen to the arguments of counsel, to do my own research thoroughly, and to reach rulings promptly.  Outside of the court, I have been a frequent speaker in continuing legal education for a variety of providers and I’ve made every effort to stay abreast of the current law.  I have actively contributed to the improvement of the law, the legal system, and the administration of justice in a variety of ways.  I know that there are no unimportant cases and that I must give the same conscientious attention to every matter that comes before me.”
