BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:

Education:  1987 – University of Colorado, B.S.; 1992 – Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis

Judicial Experience:  Judge Christ-Garcia was appointed to the Marion Superior Court by Governor Mitch Daniels on January 29, 2007.  She was a Master Commissioner for the Marion County Superior Court from 1995 to 2007, with years of trial experience in all the municipal courts including traffic, environmental and community courts.  When she was first appointed, she was assigned to the Protective Order Court in Superior Court G21. Judge Christ-Garcia is currently assigned to Superior Court G17, felony domestic violence court.

Significant Legal Accomplishments:  Judge Christ-Garcia was the founding judicial officer of the Indianapolis Community Court of Indianapolis in 2001, the first of its kind in Indiana. She was appointed by Chief Justice Shepard in 2006 to the newly created Problem Solving Courts Committee, recently selected as the Chair of the Policy and Legislation Subcommittee for the Problem Solving Court Committee. Prior to her roles as Judge and Commissioner, she was a partner in the Indianapolis law firm of Christ, Hadler & Brothers, practicing both criminal and civil law.

Other Legal Involvement:  Member, Indianapolis Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association, and National Association of Women Judges.  Former member of the, Marion Co. Criminal Defense Bar Association. , National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.  Volunteer - Operation Big Vote of Marion County and Voter Registration.

Christ-Garcia is married with two children. She is a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.  She has been active in the community, serving on various boards including: the Highland Kessler Civic League Neighborhood Association, Southeast Community Services Center and Loretto Hall Renovation for Cathedral High School.

Personal Statement:  I have 13+ years of judicial experience and pride myself on treating all people (attorneys, police, witnesses, defendants & staff) who appear before me politely and with dignity.  I am honored to work as a public servant and take my role very seriously. I understand & comprehend the affect crime has on the victim, the community, the defendant and the local economy. I value the importance of efficiency in the justice system and its relationship to the protection of personal liberty, crime prevention and the protection of victims.  I come from the private practice of law and understand the rigors of the practice of law from the lawyers’ perspective.
