BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:

Education:  Shortridge High School; Indiana University, B.S., 1974; M.A. Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs 1978; and J.D., Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis, 1982.  She is a graduate of the Indiana Judicial College and the Indiana Judges Graduate Program.

Judicial Experience:  She was elected to a first term beginning January 1, 1991, Marion Superior Court, Judge Ayers is now serving her third term on the bench, Civil Division Room 4. She served as the Presiding Judge of Marion Superior Court completing a 2-year term 2003. She had previously served as Associate Presiding Judge for 2 years.

Significant Legal Accomplishments:  She was a Marion County Deputy Prosecutor and was in private practice in Indianapolis before taking the bench full-time in 1991. Judge Ayers has been an instructor of Business and Family law at the Indiana Vocational Technical College. She was also former a trial attorney for the Indiana Consumer Counselor, and was appointed a Master Commissioner of Marion Superior Court, Title IV-D Court where she served for 2 1/2 years.  Past President, Indianapolis Bar Association (President in 2006); Marion County Bar Association Board of Managers, 1992, 2000 and 2003.

Other Legal Involvement:  Judge Ayers served on the Domestic Relations Committee of the Indiana Judicial Conference for five years and assisted in the drafting and promulgation of the Indiana Child Support Guidelines and the Indiana Parenting Time Guidelines. She is a past advisory board member of ICLEO Committee.  She serves on the Indiana Supreme Court Character & Fitness Committee and its Technology Committee (JTAC).  She was appointed by the General Assembly as a member of the Indiana Child Custody and Support Advisory Committee in 2001. She was a founding member of the Indianapolis Bar Association Justice Center Task Force. 

She is a member of the National Council of Negro Women, the Indianapolis Urban League and the NAACP.
