BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:

Education:  Rosenberg obtained his B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in 1966 and his J.D. from the University of Chicago in 1969.

Judicial Experience:  Since May of 1996, Louis Rosenberg has served as a Magistrate of the Marion County Superior Court.  As a Magistrate, Rosenberg has had a wide variety of responsibilities.  An early assignment was to the Domestic Violence Courts.  He also helped launch the Mental Health Diversion Court (PAIR).  For 6 1/2 years, Rosenberg presided over Court 99, a D felony Court.  In that capacity, he has conducted scores of jury trials and hundreds of court trials.

Significant Legal Accomplishments:    Rosenberg was first admitted to practice by the Illinois Supreme Court in 1970.  Since then he has been admitted to practice by the Indiana Supreme Court in 1971, several federal district courts, the 2nd, 4th and 7th U.S. Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Supreme Court.  From 1978-1996, Rosenberg served in various capacities with the UAW Legal Services Plan, first as a staff attorney and then as Litigation Director for approximately 20 offices in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio and Managing Attorney for its Indianapolis office.Mag. Rosenberg has written and lectured extensively on legal issues.  In 1996, he and Christine Hickey co-authored an article concerning debt collection.  The Indiana State Bar Association cited the article as the best to appear in Res Gestae in 1996.

Other Legal Involvement:  Rosenberg’s professional membership includes the Indianapolis Bar Association, the Marion County Bar Association and the Indiana Judges Association. Rosenberg was named a “distinguished fellow” by the Indiana Bar Foundation.  He was appointed to the Board of Managers of IJA as the representative of the 80 + Magistrates in our state.

Personal Statement:   Rosenberg has been active in the community serving on various boards including: the Butler-Tarkington Neighborhood Ass.; the Community Service Council of Metropolitan Indianapolis; and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Multi-Service Center.  The Indiana Council of Churches cited Rosenberg in 1978 for service to the community.  In 1996, he received the Louis Dawson Memorial Award from the Tabernacle Church for outstanding service to its Recreation program. Mag. Rosenberg is married to Sheila Farrell Rosenberg.  They have raised three children, Daniel, Erin and Gabriel in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood of Indianapolis.
