Education:
1996 – Purdue University B.A., Majors: Political Science and Public Relations; 2000 – Thomas M. Cooley Law School, J.D., cum laude.
Judicial Experience:
Amy Jones is a candidate for Marion Superior Court Judge. She has had the honor of serving as a judge pro tempore in the Marion Superior Courts on numerous occasions over the last several years presiding primarily over misdemeanor and D Felony cases.
Significant Legal Accomplishments:
Amy’s legal career began with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, where she handled everything from misdemeanors to prosecuting murderers, rapists and suspects accused of child molestation. After four years, Amy moved to the private sector where she concentrated on insurance defense cases. That position eventually led her to The Hartford Insurance as a litigation specialist, and ultimately into the role of Training & Development Leader, where she taught newly hired insurance adjusters tort and negligence laws. After time spent in the corporate environment, Amy realized that she truly missed being in the courtroom on a daily basis and opened her own law practice where she represents clients in both criminal and civil matters. Amy also works with indigent clients through the Marion County Public Defender’s Agency, by representing clients in major felony cases. Amy has tried more than 50 jury trials and hundreds of bench trials in the Superior Courts.
Other Legal Involvement:
From 2006-2011, Amy served as a Board Member for INCASA (Indiana Coalition Against Sexual Assault), a non-profit organization that provides services to victims of sexual assault and training for judges, medical professionals, prosecutors, and victim advocates. From 2008-2010, Amy served as a Member of the Human Rights Committee for Opportunities for Positive Growth “OPG”. OPG is based in Fishers, Indiana, and provides support to individuals with developmental disabilities. The committee leads OPG in safeguarding, supporting and exercising the human rights of those individuals participating in services provided by OPG.
Personal Statement:
My experience of practicing in both the criminal and civil divisions of the Superior Courts, as well as prosecuting and defending, makes me an ideal judicial candidate. Drawing upon my past experiences will assist me in administering the law in a fair, impartial, and competent manner.
