Significant Legal Accomplishments:
Prior to taking the bench, Judge Orbison was a Deputy Prosecutor assigned to the Major Felony Adult Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Division from 1986 to 1995, and was responsible for the successful prosecution of hundreds of sex offenders. She was Supervisor of that division beginning in 1992. Judge Orbison has worked to improve our laws protecting children and was author of two statutory amendments and a new statute passed by the Indiana Legislature in 1994, relating to the prosecution of sex offenders and the testimony of child molest victims. Personal Statement:
During the 14 years that I have been on the bench, as both a magistrate and judge, I have presided over hundreds of cases, many of which have involved extreme violence and tragedy. I have worked hard to show respect to litigants on both sides, while making the difficult decisions that impact their lives and that of their families. As a member of two State committees, I have worked with judges from around the State to address common problems in view of improving our judiciary statewide, and have been enriched by the array of different perspectives and approaches to intractable problems. I have made an effort off the bench to give of my time for charitable causes that affect not only the judiciary, but also the welfare of our community.
