Education:
Wesleyan University, located in Middletown, Ct., awarded me at Bachelor of Science degree in 1971.  My J.D. was awarded by Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1974.

Judicial Experience:
I have been a Marion Superior Court Judge since 2000. Other than sitting pro tem from time to time, I am acquiring my experience on the job.

Significant Legal Accomplishments:
I practiced for 27 years before I was elected to the bench. During that time I tried hundreds of trials in major felony court. Presiding in such a court is not a huge jump. I also tried personal injury juries and hundreds of divorce cases. Most significantly, for several years prior to being elected, and at the time of my election, my Martindale-Hubbell rating was "Av."   In 2008 the United States Supreme Court affirmed my decision in Indiana v. Edwards.  In 2011 the Indiana State Bar Association presented me their Rabb Emison Award

Other Legal Involvement:
My membership in, and committee involvement with, the Indianapolis and Marion County Bar Associations goes back more than 35 years. I have twice served as a Vice-President of the IndyBar. I have also served multiple terms on the Boards of both the IndyBar and the MCBA. In addition to IndyBar and ICLEF, I have been a part of CLE presentations for any number of groups. I have been an instructor for the IndyBar's Bar Review and an Adjunct Professor for our local law school.

Personal Statement:
With the exception of adoptions, people do not come to the courthouse because something good has happened. It is extremely important that every person—victim, witness, defendant and attorney—who enters the court environment is treated with courtesy and dignity. I insist this Court's staff meet that challenge. At the end of the day, a judge's job is to make difficult and important decisions. I work hard to stay current on the law, open to innovative arguments and willing to make difficult decisions without fear or favor.
