Education:
Jose Salinas received his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas-Pan American and his law degree from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1997.
Judicial Experience:
Judge Salinas presides over Marion County Superior Court 14, Criminal Division (“D” felony drug court), as well as, overseeing the Marion County Drug Treatment Court, Marion County Re-entry Court and the Marion County Comprehensive Anti-Gang Court.
Significant Legal Accomplishments:
He was the 1st Hispanic elected to the Marion County Superior Court. Prior to taking the bench he worked as a public defender for the Plainfield Town Court for 7 years, was on the Federal Public Defender Panel and was a conflict attorney for the Marion County Defender Agency (major felony division) for the 6 years. While practicing law, Judge Salinas focused on representing the growing Central Indiana Hispanic Community while still serving the Indianapolis Community in the areas of family law, civil and criminal matter. Judge Salinas has spent most of his life working in the criminal justice system. He has experience as a police officer, probation officer, child advocate, and attorney.
Other Legal Involvement:
Judge Salinas is active in the community serving on several Boards in the Indianapolis area and had maintained a private practice for 9 years prior to taking the bench in January of 2007.
Personal Statement:
Judge Salinas is married and has two school age children, a 6 year old and a 4 year old.
