BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:
Education: 1984, Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis
Judicial Experience: January 1991 through July 2000, Master Commissioner, Marion Superior Court, Title IV-D. August 2000 to present, Judge, Marion Superior Court, Criminal 8, a high volume misdemeanor court.
Significant Legal Accomplishments: Conducts compliance hearings for mentally ill defendants in PAIR, Forensic Diversion, and Post-Conviction Forensic Diversion. Teaches police officers, in the Crisis Intervention Team Training (CIT), appropriate ways to recognize and deal with mentally ill individuals. Initiated an On-Site Paternity Testing Program which resulted in quicker and more definite paternity determinations. Initiated an Access and Visitation Program for Parents and Children.
Other Legal Involvement: Past IBA Board of Managers member and secretary. Member Community Corrections Forensic-Diversion Planning Committee. Member Indiana Judicial Center Judicial Education Committee. Member Marion Superior Court Technology Committee.
Personal Statement: Courts should run efficiently and timely. Starting on time and expediting minor matters allows utilization of resources for the more complex cases. Each case must be handled individually and solutions tailored to each individual. The purpose of the misdemeanor courts is to change behavior, so that the community, and the individual is safer.
