BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:

Education: I earned my Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.), in 1991, from Indiana University Law School, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Judicial Experience: I am currently the presiding judge in Marion County Superior Court, Criminal Division 10. Additionally, from 1992 until 1996, I served as judge pro-tempore for Judge John Hesseldenz of Center Township of Marion County Small Claims Court.  After the death of Judge Hesseldenz in 1996, I continued as a commissioner for his successor, Judge Paula Lopossa, until the summer of 2000.  Also, during this time I sat as judge pro-tempore in the Initial Hearing Court, and Marion Superior Courts, Criminal Divisions 14, 15, and 19.  I became a master commissioner for the Marion Superior Courts in 2000 and was elected Marion County Superior Court Judge in November of 2000.

Significant Legal Accomplishments: Upon graduation I became an associate attorney with the law firm of Smith and Radford.  In 1992, my sister, Kimberly Brown, and I established the law firm of Brown and Brown, focusing on criminal law, family law, probate law and bankruptcy.  While in private practice, I worked part-time as a public defender with the Marion County Public Defender Agency.

Other Legal Involvement:  I hold membership in the Indiana State Bar Association, Indianapolis Bar Association and Marion County Bar Association.  In 2001, I was appointed by the Indiana Supreme Court to the Protective Order Benchbook Committee; serving on that committee until 2005.  I have also served as a volunteer judge for the Marion County Teen Court Program.  Additionally, I was a presenter at the Indiana Judicial Conference in September of this year. I am a former board member of the Butler-Tarkington Neighborhood Association.
